Boxes & Lights

Foothill Blvd
La Crescenta

I raced for the Chevy truck when the lights turned red. Luckily at the time, there weren’t many cars to let me ease beside it on the right lane. “You dropped a box!” the window misted as my voice echoed inside the car. They felt my stare so they rolled down a window. I did too. They were obviously on the way to a storage facility nearby. I told them a box fell a couple of intersections behind. After the thank yous and pleasantries and where are you from, yadda yadda yadda the cars behind us honked! Green light’s on!

Big Bear

Big Bear Lake
Big Bear City

I was expecting little of Big Bear. Little did I know….

Marinas line the banks of the lake pocked by islets crisscrossed by speedboats, jet skis, pontoon boats and kayaks and SUP’s. The arduous twists and turns was a good 50-minute drive across mountains trafficked by skiers and snowboarders in winter. The towering lodgepoles and pinecones are mute witnesses to the blossoming and survival of this 19th century four-season resort. Now it is wrapped in modernity, but the log cabins and rustic architecture bring you back in time when it was a mecca for gold prospectors. I felt like digging….
