Reader's Digest

Readers Digest (January 2013 issue) ran a story I posted in September. What? It’s about the botched fresco restoration in Borja, Spain. You can’t imagine how much pride I felt knowing this. For many years, the Digest was my prime source of information and insights on current events. It’s still my favorite magazine in print but now, there is a whole universe of information literally at your fingertips, the Digest is also in it, and so much more - the world wide web perhaps is the most important and transcendental of human inventions….

Behold The Monkey

Behold The Man is the original title for this 20th century fresco (wall painting) of Christ in an obscure church in an obscure town in Spain. Over the years the image deteriorated and was restored by the original artist from man – to monkey! Because of these viral images this northern Spanish town of Borja is obscure no more. Now, Behold The Monkey becomes the 21st century fiasco! This isn’t blasphemy, but an apt title for a painting restoration running askew. Plans to undo the redo is underway but ironically, many petitioned online to keep the post-restoration image. Huh?
