The
Cantonists were Jews snatched from
their homes then forced to abandon the faith while in the Russian Army. They
who survived the torture became too emotionally and psychologically scarred to
raise a family so they lived together in small villages. On the eve of Yom Kippur, a Rabbi came for minyan.

can't take your shirt off in the synagogue!” Protested the Rabbi. But as the
shirt fell from the man's shoulders, it revealed hundreds of deep scars - each
one for each time he refused to forsake his God….
